Southampton Camp

Summer Camp for the Arts in the Hamptons

If you are looking for a summer camp in the Hamptons, one that will inspire you, come join us in Bridgehampton this summer where students have a choice to explore music, art or dance. In our music program, you can join Rock Camp or Jazz Workshop. In art we have Diving into Art and Explore Ceramics, and in dance we have Dance Intensive. You can see all of our programs and dates on our site.

Our summer camp in the Hamptons, Rock Camp, is open to beginner students - experienced musicians of all ages. Students will take small group lessons, play in both a morning band and afternoon band, take a number of electives, and have a performance at the end of the week. Our musicians also learn to read and write music, and learn about music theory.

For instance, say students learn the song Memories by Maroon 5 in their band.  In addition to learning the music and how to perform it, they would also learn about music theory and the power of harmony when chords move from the I chord to the V chord (such as C major to G dominant 7th).

We will learn how original songs come from a variety of sources, and ideas are often recycled.  Everything comes from something and new songs are often a variation of older songs in some way.

Listen to Memories by Maroon 5.  Then listen to Pachabel's Canon in D.  You can see how Adam Levine added his amazing voice, guitar, and a drum beat voice to a song written in 1680.  The chords are the same.  Add a catchy beat, guitar, and creative lyrics....and you have Pachelbel's Canon updated to 2023.

Last Week of Rock Camp & Diving Into Art, Summer 2022!

Well, It’s been an amazing summer so far. So proud of every student that has walked through our doors and the level of talent you have have shown in concerts, art exhibits, and dance recitals!

This is our last week for summer 2022, we look forward to seeing all you!!

Music is a Language, Long Island Music Camp, Rock Camp and Jazz Workshop

In our music camp in Bridgehampton, Long Island, we approach learning music in the same way you learn to speak your native language. How is this done?

When we are all kids we lean to speak with words, then phrases, then complete sentences, and as we grow older find ourselves in situations where we need to speak in public to small and large crowds. Along with that we learn in a very intuitive way how to accent certain words and letters to express our ideas and emotions. To deepen our knowledge we learn to read and write and keep refining these skills throughout our life.

Learning music is the same thing. Here is a great video by the bassist, Victor Wooten, diving further into this idea.

Just as a child will have conversations at the dinner table, it’s the same in Rock Camp and Jazz Workshop in Bridgehampton, Long Island. You will play in multiple bands, you will have lessons, you will perform, you will interact with many different musicians (your age and older), and you will have many different teachers. With each teacher and student musician you interact with you will learn and get inspired in a myriad of ways.

So whether you a beginner or advanced musician, come as you are, and get ready to speak music!

A Unique Experience, Our Hamptons Summer Camp in Music in Bridgehampton, Long Island

In our Hamptons summer music camp in Bridgehampton, Long Island, Rock Camp, students get a unique experience where they learn more than music. Our musicians - whether beginners or advanced students - are taking lessons in the morning and afternoon, play in a morning and afternoon band, take electives, and have whole lot of fun with friends along the way. At the end of the week we have a concert where our student musicians will all perform covers and original music, and reach heights they did not know was possible a week ago.

In addition to learning music in out Hamptons summer camp, students also experience…

Working as Part of a Team (Band) and Making New Friends

When you are in a band at Rock Camp in Long Island, there many important skills you learn in addition to the music. You learn the give-and-take and push-and-pull of working as a team with a common goal (getting along with others, sharing your ideas, expressing yourself, compromising). When you are in a band you have to work with your fellow musicians to create amazing music for a concert. What makes this a cool experience is that along the way you are having a whole lot of fun, making new friends, and you have teacher who loves to share his or her knowledge to make sure everyone is growing along the way.

Self-Confidence That Only Comes With Performance

Students in our Hamptons summer camp in Long Island, whether beginners or experienced, are transformed in a certain way as they prepare for the concert and finally perform at the end of the week.

Why is this?

Students learn to believe in themselves because as they build new skills, hour by hour, they realize, “Hey, I can do this!” As they practice their instrument, whether that is voice, piano, guitar, saxophone or any instrument, they realize, “Hey, I am improving. What seemed impossible is within reach.”

And when they reach a certain level of accomplishment in rehearsal and in performance, they understand in an intuitive way that if they can do this in music, they can probably do it in anything they put their mind to. It’s a quiet confidence that no one can give you. You earn it yourself and we make sure you reach your potential.
